Ares was born in Havana, Cuba on september 2, 1963. His education included the study of medicine (Graduated in 1987) and psychiatry (Graduated in 1993).

Ares has made cartoons, paintings, illustrations and animated films, he currently works in Havana as a freelance artist.

He has won more than 100 international awards and has published sixteen books. His cartoons are published around the world, he has illustrated more than sixty books and has worked in TV and film with some of his works being used to make short animated films (Filminutos).

In 2002, Ares received the National Culture Medal from the Cuban Cultural Minister, is the first vice-president of the visual artist association of the Cuban Artists and Writers Union (UNEAC).

 

Ares nació en La Habana, Cuba el 2 de septiembre de 1963. Graduado de médico psiquiatra.

Ha realizado dibujos de humor, ilustraciones y colaborado con el cine de animación, actualmente trabaja como artista independiente en La Habana.

Ha obtenido más de un centenar de premios internacionales y ha publicado dieciseis libros. Sus caricaturas se publican en todo el mundo, ha ilustrado más de sesenta libros y ha trabajado para la televisión y los dibujos animados (Filminutos).

En el 2002, Ares recibió la Distinción por la Cultura Nacional otorgada por el Ministro de Cultura de Cuba y es actualmente el vicepresidente primero de la Asociación de Artistas Plásticos de la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC).
